Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a chronic metabolic disease with a steadily increasing prevalence that can lead to various complications if blood glucose levels are not controlled. To prevent complications caused by persistently elevated blood glucose levels, non-pharmacological therapies should be pursued, one of which is the 3J dietary therapy. Adjusting dietary patterns, food choices, and mealtimes can help control patients’ blood glucose levels. The objective of this study was to determine whether dietary adherence is a determinant of blood glucose levels. This study employed a correlational research design with a cross-sectional approach. The study population consisted of DM patients receiving treatment at the Majegan Community Health Center in Klaten. A total of 64 respondents were recruited using accidental sampling, in accordance with the study’s inclusion criteria. Data were collected using a questionnaire, and bivariate analysis was performed using the chi-square test. The results showed that the blood glucose levels of the majority of respondents were within the normal range (67.2%), and the respondents’ dietary compliance rate was 70.3%. The results of the Chi-Square test indicated a significant association between dietary compliance and blood glucose levels (p-value = 0.001 < 0.005). Conclusion: Dietary compliance is a determinant of blood glucose levels in patients with diabetes mellitus.
