Abstract

Background: Hypertension is one of the most prevalent non-communicable diseases and a major risk factor for cardiovascular complications. In addition to blood pressure control, sleep quality is an important aspect of hypertension management. Sleep hygiene refers to behavioral practices that promote healthy sleep and may contribute to better sleep quality. However, evidence regarding the relationship between sleep hygiene and sleep quality among patients with hypertension in primary healthcare settings remains limited. Objective: To analyze the relationship between sleep hygiene and sleep quality among patients with hypertension at Tambak II Primary Healthcare Center. Methods: This study employed an observational analytic design with a cross-sectional approach. The study population consisted of all 53 hypertensive patients enrolled in the Chronic Disease Management Program (Prolanis) at Tambak II Primary Healthcare Center. Total sampling was applied, and all eligible participants were included. Sleep hygiene was assessed using the Sleep Hygiene Index (SHI), while sleep quality was measured using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). Data were analyzed using Fisher’s Exact Test with a significance level of 95% (?=0.05). Results: Most respondents had moderate sleep hygiene (69.8%) and poor sleep quality (94.3%). Bivariate analysis revealed a significant relationship between sleep hygiene and sleep quality among patients with hypertension (p=0.004). Respondents with better sleep hygiene tended to have better sleep quality compared with those who had moderate or poor sleep hygiene. Conclusion: There was a significant relationship between sleep hygiene and sleep quality among patients with hypertension at Tambak II Primary Healthcare Center. Improving sleep hygiene practices may serve as an important strategy to enhance sleep quality among hypertensive patients in primary healthcare settings.
